Pro tips

The Paris Marathon is hilly and could be windy too, so don’t go too crazy. Try to be in your own starting airlock or bubble regarding your pace. It may sound obvious, but it is so important to respect your pace and others pace. Remember to smile, and if music helps you, I feel like it’s great to immerse yourself in the race with music, cheering zones, and people.

Be sure to arrive at the race not too early but not too late, and try to go to the restroom at least 2-3 times before the race. Sleep, eat, and drink properly before the race, especially the week before. Because you never know if you will sleep well or not the night before (you might have trouble sleeping), or if you will have trouble eating, etc.

Eat properly if it’s your first time in Paris or in France, try to avoid eating too much bread and wait after the race. Try to respect your regular diet as your digestive system could be challenged for many reasons. Go crazy after the race. My number one tip is to drink beetroot juice two days before the race to flush out everything and to feel light in the race day. But don’t do it the day before, as you never know how your body will react to it. Some people say that beets contain nitrates that the body uses to improve oxygen uptake by the cells, which is great for performance. They recommend you drink it every day for 7 days prior to the race.

For your mind: It could be nice to write down your targeted pace for each block on your arm or on a piece of paper. That’s a tip from my friend Editha.
Prepare your things the night before.

“Avoid all stress.”

The day before, try to commute to the starting line. It’s great for mental visualization and also for you to go there on race day without any pressures of the event.
